Dog Training in Huntington York

Looking for positive, reward-based dog training in Huntington?

Well Behaved Mutts provides practical training for puppies and adult dogs in Huntington and surrounding areas. I’m based in York and offer small puppy classes, individual training and consultations designed around you and your dog.

Training is provided by Jess Kirby, an IMDT-accredited dog trainer with a BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour and Training. I use modern, force-free methods to help owners build calm, reliable behaviour for everyday life.

Puppy Classes in Huntington

Calm Puppy Foundations classes take place at Huntington Community Centre.

This supportive six-week course is suitable for puppies aged six months and under at the beginning of the course. Classes are kept small, with a maximum of four puppies, so everyone receives individual guidance.

During the course, we work on:

  • Recall foundations

  • Loose-lead walking

  • Focus and engagement

  • Sit, down, stay and wait

  • Calm behaviour and impulse control

  • Everyday manners

  • Confidence-building

The IMDT Puppy Grade is also included, giving you and your puppy the opportunity to work towards a recognised training achievement.

One-to-One Dog Training in Huntington

One-to-one training is available for Huntington owners who would prefer individual support tailored to their dog.

Sessions can help with:

  • Pulling on the lead

  • Recall around distractions

  • Jumping up

  • Over-excitement

  • Difficulty focusing outside

  • Everyday manners

  • Confidence building

  • Puppy training at home

Training can take place at your home, during a local walk or at another suitable training location. We focus on the situations where you need help, giving you clear and realistic exercises that can be continued between sessions.

Puppy and Rescue-Dog Consultations

Individual consultations are also available for puppies and rescue dogs who need more specialised support.

Puppy consultations can help with biting, settling, toilet training, routines, handling, confidence and preventing unwanted behaviours from becoming established.

Rescue consultations provide calm, supportive guidance for dogs adjusting to a new home or experiencing fear, anxiety, over-excitement or difficulty settling.

Positive, Reward-Based Dog Training

Training should help both you and your dog feel confident.

I use positive reinforcement to teach dogs what we would like them to do, without force, intimidation or outdated methods. Sessions are practical, supportive and focused on skills that make a genuine difference at home and during everyday walks.

Every dog is different, so training is adjusted to your dog’s age, experience, personality and individual needs.

Dog Training Around Huntington

As well as Huntington, I support dog owners across York and selected surrounding areas, including Haxby, Strensall, Dunnington, Pocklington and Stamford Bridge.

I am based in York and serve nearby communities across the City of York, parts of North Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
